Kirsti and Ryan’s wedding plans are progressing. The ceremony will be August 5th in the Jordan River Temple with a reception by the Merrills at the BYU Skyroom that evening. Some of us will fly to the marriage, others, including Steve, me, Elise, and Beckie, will drive. We are planning to take Noah with us. There will be a reception the next Friday, the 12th, here in Columbia at the stake center. Kirsti bought a dress last week that will need a little bolero jacket that I will make. My main objective right now is compiling a guest list while Kirsti and Ryan put together an invitation. Kirsti’s non-wedding news is that her foot stress fracture is healed but she has mononucleosis! Blood test confirmed it.
We celebrated Steven's birthday.......
Elise visited us last week – to drop off her cat, Tonks, while she will be traveling east and west this summer. Steve, Tamara, Elise, and I ate at delicious BBQ at Lonnie Rays on Wednesday. Beckie and Steven both had work commitments and we missed them. On Thursday, Elise treated me to the movie Thor. Loved it! Then, she and I drove to St. Louis on Friday to take care of Lucy while Noah has his eye surgery (see Emily’s blog). It was so fun to hold beautiful, adorable little Lucy. She sure didn’t like to take the bottle when it had mamma’s milk in it but she did fine when it was filled with formula. Hmmmm. Elise continued eastward to her home Friday night but I stayed the night, met Steve at the temple Saturday morning, made a quick visit to Emily's before dropping him off at regional leadership meetings that afternoon (he and the Priesthood leadership of ten stakes met with three general authorities including Elder Oaks) and took care of Noah while Emily photographed a wedding (with Lucy and Joe accompanying her, of course). Noah and I picked up grandpa at 5:00 and then drove to Columbia. Noah’s visit was just a brief one – I took him to the half-way point to meet Emily on Sunday evening – but we had a great little visit.
Here he is watching Sadie, Max, and, yes, that is Stoli (Brandon's dog who stayed the weekend) eat their dinner. He only cried once when he thought there was a cicada in his room. (there wasn’t one, but it was not out of the realm of possibility as we are currently suffering through the 13-year cicada emergence. They are just deafening and disgusting)
Beckie is temporarily living with us while she is in transition between schools. We helped her move Memorial day weekend. She hates the thought of being thirty and living with her parents but I LOVE it – especially when she cooks. Oh my, that girl knows her way around a kitchen. Mmmmm.
Steven and Tamara left today for their trip to Europe – Germany, France, and Spain. This is another school-sponsored trip so they do have to chaperone teenagers in the bargain.
CIS is over for the year. My student string quartet was invited to play for graduation and did beautifully. I am currently teaching summer orchestra for Columbia Public Schools– this week and next. Never thought I would say “yes” again, but it was scheduled earlier this year and shortened to two weeks so I buckled. Good thing I did, because it is going to help pay for wedding! It is really not too bad but I do come home completely exhausted every day at noon and my naps are really deep.
My studio recital was last Thursday. All my students really did well but it is very nice to have that over for another six months.
We are experiencing an unseasonable heat wave this week and between the temperatures and the cicadas, being outdoors has been pretty awful. The stake Young Women are at camp during all of this (at Camp Hickory Hill – about two miles outside Columbia. One would never know it was so close because it is quite wooded and lovely) The stake Relief Society presidency took dinner up to the adult and youth leaders Monday night and temperatures were just miserable. I have thought of the poor girls and leaders all week.

Thankfully, there is a nice pool to cool off in. Other church related activities in the last few weeks included two trips to the Marcelline Branch for me, a visit to the Linn Branch, and seminary graduation Memorial day weekend.
The kitchen is back to normal with all the wallpaper off and a lovely shade of yellow in its place. The roll of carpet we bought for the stairs is not enough we were told so Steve and I are taking it back to Carpet Values this Saturday to exchange it for a larger piece. I figured out how to set our new thermostat. And, we bought a used Toshiba laptop and today I finally figured out how to connect Beckie’s router so we can have wireless internet. I still need to stain the new mailbox and finish some baby quilts for a friend but this blog was my first objective and now I am done!
