Oven update - still nothing. Maybe this week?????
Our week began with a visit from two former Desert Hills Stake high councilmen who had a large part in obtaining the "seminary house" three years back. One has since moved to Denver and was back for a visit. They called asking if they could come see the fruits of their labors last Sunday evening and so here we all are in the living room/seminary classroom. I can't remember any of their names. The young lady in the middle attends seminary here every day. It was her who opened up all the windows to get rid of the burnt popcorn smell that permeated the house a week ago Friday and that greeted us when we got home that afternoon from the mission office. (the microwave STILL smells like popcorn!) Elder Talbert took the photo. He was at our place for dinner. His companion was somewhere south at another dinner appointment. WHAAT??? Well, mid-last transfer, two elders had to go home for medical reasons (BOTH as a result of P-day shenanigans) and Elder Smith and Talbert were put together and over TWO areas (six wards). During the week, it worked out fine. Sundays were a different story. Elder Talbert stayed up with the three wards in the Anthem building and Elder Smith went to the other meetinghouse and the other three wards. It was crazy Sundays for both of them.
And their craziness ended this past week when we had transfers. Two went home (Elders Towle and Brady) and we welcomed twelve new missionaries on Tuesday. Wednesday was the big shuffle with missionaries going all over the mission. I guess one was so excited to get to his new area that he left his luggage in the transfer building parking lot! Poor Elder Lewis will never live that one down!
I seems that the giving of Easter gifts is the new thing because we were inundated with packages all week long! Here is how I had to carry the mail from the mailbox (across the parking lot) to the office on Friday. This didn't include the two large packages already delivered by the postal worker. Or the dozens we received every day.
this is my Easter decoration at my desk
Spring in Phoenix does not include the usual spring flowers (just cactus flowers) so I had to buy my daffodils from the flower department at Safeway
And also admire the tulips they had for sale
My sister Juli's yard did have grape hyacynths blanketing her front yard...
We drove up to Payson today to celebrate Easter and to watch General Conference.
We also drove to Mesa Friday night to watch the Easter Pageant that is put on annually at the Mesa Temple. There were 10,000 seats set up and, because it was Friday and Good Friday at that, every seat was filled. We brought our own folding chairs and this is as close as we got....
(hard to tell but we were really far away from the stage and there was a palm tree that also blocked scenes on the left side) Happily, we found decent parking about two blocks away and it was not in a mass of vehicles so leaving was pretty slick.
I will end with a view of the waterfall at the park in Anthem as seen from my bicycle on our Thursday morning ride. Do you spy the ducks? The trash?
